Black Dagger Hair is a queer-owned, alternative salon in Normal Heights on Adams Avenue, created for people who want great hair and a space where they can feel seen, respected, and genuinely safe. Our salon is creative, inclusive, and gender-affirming, with a strong commitment to authenticity, sustainability, and cruelty-free, eco-conscious product choices.

Behind the chair, the work is bold and intentional. Black Dagger specializes in vivid color, fashion shades, alternative and edgy cuts, and confident short-hair shaping and barbering, especially shags and mullets. Every service is customized, with the belief that hair is a form of identity and self-expression. Whether someone wants something loud, subtle, experimental, or classic, there is a stylist at Black Dagger whose skill set and creative energy align with their vision.

Community care is not a side project for us. It is built into how we operate. Through the Black Dagger Community Collective, a queer-led nonprofit, we provide free gender-affirming haircuts and mutual aid for LGBTQIA+ people in San Diego. This includes free haircut events held multiple times throughout the year, including during Pride Festival, as well as the Community Care Cabinet located outside the salon. The cabinet is open at all times and stocked for anyone in need with food, hygiene products, and harm-reduction supplies, including Narcan.

At Black Dagger, hair is only part of the story. What matters just as much is creating a space where people can show up as themselves, feel supported by their community, and leave feeling more like who they truly are.
