Welcome to Black Dagger Community Collective
A queer-led nonprofit providing free, gender-affirming haircuts and mutual aid to LGBTQ+ folks in San Diego.
This work started long before the collective had a name. Sarah has always created gender-affirming styles behind the chair, but in 2021 she was invited by her friend Shannon Finn to offer free haircuts at San Diego Pride. What was expected to be a handful of cuts quickly turned into something much bigger. The list kept growing, and the team worked nonstop, leaving covered in sweat and hair, completely exhausted and completely fulfilled.

The following year, Sarah returned with her newly opened space, Black Dagger Hair, offering free cuts both days of the festival. What began as a single event continued to grow.

Now, Black Dagger Community Collective hosts multiple free haircut events throughout the year and maintains a community care cabinet outside the salon stocked with food and personal care items.

This is about more than just services. It’s about building a network rooted in care, dignity, self-expression, and solidarity. One haircut, one resource, one act of love at a time.

As the collective grows, the vision expands with it, including projects like a community garden for fresh food access and a relief fund to help cover essential bills.

Follow along as this work continues to build toward collective liberation.
